Last night, Rosie the galah vanished from her aviary at Pets on the Green. This morning the door was wide open β but here's the strange part: nothing was broken. No smashed lock. No forced gate. Rosie is the star of the whole place, and now she's gone.
Was she stolen? Did she escape? Or is something else going on entirely?
Your job: study the crime scene, question the four suspects, and work out the truth. If you get stuck, you can unlock hints β but be warned: the fewer hints you use, the higher your detective rank. When you're sure, head to Accuse and name the culprit.
β οΈ This one has a twist. Things are not what they seem. Read everything carefully before you decide.
π The Crime Scene. Tap each piece of evidence to examine it closely. Good detectives look at everything.
πͺ The aviary door +
Open β but not forced. The latch isn't broken and there are no scratches or damage. Whoever opened it knew how the tricky latch worked. And Rosie's wings were clipped this month β she couldn't have flown out on her own.
πͺΆ The feather trail +
A line of soft pink feathers leads away from the aviary β but not towards the open fields or the woods. It leads straight into the old feed shed. Rosie was taken somewhere on purpose.
π The half-eaten apple +
In the feed shed sits a fresh apple β Rosie's absolute favourite treat. Someone brought it specially to keep her calm and happy. Hannah the helper says it was sliced at about 9 o'clock last night. This doesn't look like a kidnapping. It looks almost likeβ¦ a rescue?
π’ The boot print +
One muddy wellington print by the shed door. It's clear and fresh β and small. Far too small for a grown-up's foot.
πΏ The friendship bracelet +
A little beaded bracelet, the string snapped, dropped right by the shed door. The coloured beads spell out a name: D Β· A Β· I Β· S Β· Y.
π Something overheard +
Hannah the helper remembers something. Yesterday afternoon she cheerfully told a visitor, "Rosie's off to her new home tomorrow!" β she meant a bigger, better aviary being built next door. But someone standing nearby looked absolutely heartbroken when they heard it.
π΅οΈ The Suspects. Four people were near Pets on the Green last night. Read their motives and alibis. An alibi is proof of where someone was β and a solid alibi means they couldn't have done it.
Bert
The grumpy gardener
Motive
Always moaning that Rosie's squawking ruins his peace and quiet.
Alibi
"I was at the garden centre across town all evening. Here's my receipt β stamped 7:52pm, and I went straight home after."
"That bird's a menace, sure. But I'd never harm her. Check my receipt."
Mr Price
The pet-shop owner
Motive
Offered big money to buy Rosie last week β and was politely turned down.
Alibi
The lane's CCTV shows his van leaving at 5pm and never coming back all night.
"I wanted her, I'll admit it. But I was home all evening. Your own cameras prove it."
Daisy
The young visitor
Motive
Visits Rosie every single day. Loves her more than anything in the world.
Alibi
"I⦠I was helping out late, and then I went home. I don't really remember."
"Iβ I don't know what happened to Rosie. Honest I don't." (She looks close to tears.)
The Fox
A wild visitor
Motive
Foxes are known to sneak into gardens at night looking for a meal.
Alibi
None β but a fox has no thumbs to work a fiddly latch, and would never slice an apple.
"β¦" (The fox declined to comment.)
Stuck? The Hints tab (β£) has three clues that get stronger as you go.
π‘ Hints. Unlock them in order. Each one is a bigger giveaway than the last β so only open what you need. Your final rank depends on how few you use.
Hint Level 1 β A nudge
Look at how Rosie was taken, not just who might want her. Was this a nasty crime⦠or did someone take her because they cared about her? That apple is a very kind thing to bring a frightened bird.
Hint Level 2 β Narrow it down
Cross off anyone with a rock-solid alibi. Bert has a timed receipt. Mr Price is on CCTV all night. The fox can't open a latch without breaking it β and the door wasn't broken. So who is leftβ¦ and whose alibi is the wobbliest of all?
Hint Level 3 β Almost there
Put three clues side by side: the boot print is child-sized, the dropped bracelet spells a name, and someone overheard that Rosie was "going away" and looked heartbroken. Now⦠who fits all three?
Hints used: 0 of 3
βοΈ Name the culprit. Who took Rosie? Choose carefully, Detective β but don't worry, you can try again if you're wrong.
